SIMPLE LIFE HACKS TO TWEAK YOUR DAILY HABITS
Challenge yourself to break some habits.
This month, Celebrity Fitness is dedicating our blog posts to inspiring you to push beyond your limits and become the best version of yourself. We all strive to improve, but it’s not always easy. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we find ourselves stuck in a rut. It might not be you, but rather the habits and routines you’ve internalised over time.
Studies have shown that much of our daily behaviour is driven by habits, not conscious choices. By tweaking these old habits, we can lead healthier lives—both physically and mentally. Maybe then, we can truly live by RuPaul's words and #loveyourself.
Flex those routines
Doing away with bad habits isn’t the same as just breaking your routines. In fact, some routines are really important for you to improve yourself. A good morning ritual sets the tone for the rest of the day, while a good evening routine helps ensure a good night’s sleep. Start off calm in the head but energised in the body – try some visualisation exercises to set the tone for the day onwards. Then, before you sleep, make sure to give your mind time to settle down before closing your eyes.
Thank you, next
Okay, so you’re not Ariana Grande thanking your ex but you can be you being thankful for the day that has just gone by! Gratitude can be a really powerful tool to focus on where you are in life and what you have achieved. It also brings some positivity into a sometimes-dreary day – remember what they say, it takes less muscles to smile than frown. Build time into your evenings to write down what you’re thankful for each day – you might be surprised to learn that science has shown that this habit can help you feel and even eat better! Gratitude – now that’s a diet we should all get behind.
It’s all about me
Yes, you’ve probably heard all about how self-care is important and already practice it – whether you make some me-time for yourself, zone out in a bath or just read a book. #boringggg The thing is that self-care on its own is often not enough – what is more important is how often you make the time for yourself. So yes, this is a good habit that needs a tweak by adding more of it into your regular schedule.
Save the best for last
Sometimes when we have a delicious meal, and there’s something on our plate that we like the most, we would make sure that it’s the last thing we taste. This is the same for life too! When we have to do things we don’t like, it tends to create a lot of stress and anxiety. The longer you wait, the more of a toll you’re taking out on your body. Change the way you approach these things and bite the bullet to get it out of the way. And if it’s particularly difficult, the amazing feeling you’ll get from completing it will boost your spirits to take everything else on. Happy vibes all around after that!
Zone out
21st century life is completely focused these days – whether at school, at work or just lazing around at home when we’re constantly staring at our screens. Give your eyes (and mind and body) a break! Deal with the FOMO by reminding yourself that the content online are infinite – you will always miss something so what’s another couple of hours a day for a social media detox. Taking regular time outs can help alleviate depression and anxieties. This also brings us back to the first tip above – turn your screens off way before you sleep so that you have a better night’s rest and are able to tackle the next day as your best self.
Try Something New
Taking care of yourself also means setting aside time to try something new and inject some excitement into your routine. Why not join a group exercises where you can let loose, express yourself, and have fun? Before you know it, this will become a cherished part of your routine—a time just for you to shine and enjoy yourself.
